Meet the Editor

Hi all! I wanted to introduce myself to any new (or returning) visitors on the site! My name is Kathryn Whitley, and I am a copyeditor and proofreader (obviously).

I received a master’s degree in neuroscience, and while research was engaging, I knew it wasn’t the long-term path for me. I had always been interested in literature and reading, and I wanted to find a way to make reading a full-time job!

To do this, I was accepted into the University of Chicago Editing Certification program where I learned the ins and outs of editing using Chicago style as well as a focus on medical/academic editing so I could continue to use my degree(ish).

My first big project was with McGraw-Hill—Medical where I proofread chapters of Current Medical Diagnosis and Treatment that had been reviewed by authors. Since then, I have remained in contract with them for 4 years! Outside of that contract, I’ve worked with a religious studies author on her book Jesus Found In Translation as well as writing book reviews for Elite Editing.

When I’m not reading for misplaced commas or parallelism, I’m instead reading science fiction, cross-stitching, or jamming out to Taylor Swift. I’m also in the process of writing my first novel (tentatively titled The Farasha Effect) that combines time travel, Ancient Egypt, and a bit of romance. Stay tuned for that. 👀 👀
